👋 In short
We collect as little as possible. What we do need, we use for one thing: getting stray animals helped faster. We never sell your data and we don't share it with advertisers or other companies that want to profit from it. Full stop.
📍 Your location (GPS)
When you report an animal, we ask for access to your location. We do this for one purpose only: to place a pin in the right spot on the map, so another animal lover nearby can find the animal too.
- We use GPS only when you post a report or view the map, not to track you throughout the day.
- We do not build a profile of where you come from or live.
- You can always turn off location access in your phone settings. The app will keep working; you just won't be able to place a pin yourself.
In short: GPS is there for the animal on the map, not for you.
📷 Your camera
We ask for access to your camera so you can take a photo of the animal you're reporting. That photo helps others recognize which animal it is and what condition it's in.
- You use the camera only yourself: for a photo with a place, a post or your profile picture.
- We never open your camera in the background and don't make recordings outside of your reports.
- We have no access to your entire photo library; you choose or take the photo you share yourself.
🔐 Your account information
To participate, you create an account. For that, we store a few details, such as your email address and your chosen username.
- Your information is stored securely and encrypted and is protected from unauthorized access.
- Other users never see your email address, only the name you choose.
- We don't store your password in readable form; it's encrypted so even we can't view it.
- Your places, posts and chat messages are stored on our server. Other users see places and posts; a chat message only you and the recipient.
🧩 Services the app uses
For a few parts the app works with other services. Only what that part needs is passed on.
- Signing in with Google, Facebook or Apple goes through Google’s Firebase. We then keep your name, an e-mail address that service has confirmed and an identifier of your account there. We never see your password for that service.
- Push notifications go through Firebase Cloud Messaging. For this we keep a code of your device. You turn notifications off in your profile.
- Translating: when you tap Translate on a post, we send the text of that post to Anthropic (Claude) to translate it. We keep the translation for 180 days, so the same text does not have to be sent again.
- Searching for an address on the map goes through our server to Google. Google gets the search text, not your account.
- Donating goes through Stripe. You enter your card details with Stripe; we neither see nor keep them. We only keep the amount and the reference of the payment.
- E-mail from us, such as your verification code or a link to reset your password, is sent through Resend.
🚫 What we never do
There are some things we fundamentally don't do, no matter how commercially tempting:
- We do not sell your data to third parties: not to advertisers, not to data brokers and not to anyone else.
- We don't rent or trade your data either.
- We don't show ads based on your personal behavior.
⚖️ Your rights
It remains your data. You may at any time:
- View what data we have about you.
- Have your data corrected if something is wrong.
- Have your account and its data deleted completely. You can also do this yourself, in the app from your profile.
